A Constitutional Law scholar, author of books on impeachment and American history, Michael Gerhardt — who grew up in Mobile and Springhill Avenue Temple — speaks about his newest book, “FDR’s Mentors,” a companion volume to “Lincoln’s Mentors,” the importance of great teachers, and how his own career, Jewish life, and dedication to family and community was shaped by
influential figures. The 2023 recipient of UNC’s Jefferson Award, for his “scholarly excellence” and “a commitment to public service,” Prof. Gerhardt has been profiled in the New York Times and is a frequent guest on national news shows commenting on law and politics.
